About

Lloyd is a partner in our Construction and Engineering team, specialising in renewable energy and net zero services for clients. He acts for developers, funders and investors (as well as contractors) both nationally and internationally on significant energy and infrastructure projects. Lloyd has significant expertise in new build projects (including the use and deployment of debt finance) as well as the secondary market (M&A, re-fi).

During his time at Burges Salmon, Lloyd has worked across a multitude of technologies including solar, wind (onshore and offshore), nuclear, biomass, waste to energy, AD, hydrogen, wave and tidal, geothermal, biofuels, hydro and EVs. Lloyd has further experience of major infrastructure procurement in a number of other sectors including highways, rail, defence, health and education.

He regularly uses and advises on all key construction form contracts including FIDIC, NEC, IChemE, MF/1, JCT as well as operation and maintenance contracts. Lloyd is a regular speaker at conference events in the energy sector and is qualified to practise law in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Experience

  • Drax: Advising on the procurement of Cruachan 2, the first new build pumped hydro storage project in the UK for decades.
  • Battery Storage: Advising on some of the largest BESS project pipelines in the last 10 years including three of the largest BESS projects in Europe for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Atlantic Green’s Cellarhead project.
  • Eden Project: Advising on one of the UK’s first deep geothermal schemes.
  • Waste to Fuel: Advising developers on a number of cutting edge projects across the UK.
  • Port Development: Advising a number of developers on the upgrade of port facilities including logistic and manufacturing facilities linked to major offshore wind projects.
  • MeyGen: Advising on the world’s largest commercial tidal array at Pentland Firth.
