As the 25th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) comes to a close, the world is reminded again, by Greta Thunberg amongst others, that the trend in global emissions needs to be tackled. Fast.

The UK hosts COP26 in Glasgow next year in what is the critical year when countries must, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, submit climate action plans.  The significant task of rallying an international response to climate change challenges the UK to demonstrate world leadership on net zero.

Whilst great strides are being made in the UK transport industry, UK Government data confirms that it is still the biggest emitting sector.

As host of COP26, the focus on net zero in the UK and in particular on the transport element of that is likely to intensify, as will calls such as those from Clare Haigh of Greener Journeys in the article below for the UK to take responsibility for galvanising change and to demonstrate concrete measures and credible action.

If a week is a long time in politics then what is a year?  But in climate terms, the clear message from COP25 is that time must not be wasted.
