The speed with which many employers have responded to the call to arms to get people working from home is impressive. But the excitement over new bits of kit and the joy of inspecting your colleague’s choice of wallpaper whilst on Zoom will only last so long. For many employees, working from home will be unchartered territory and once the novelty wears off, the realities of being away from colleagues, not to mention the struggles of combining work with the child care commitments that the school closures have caused, may well start take its toll. Government guidance on mental health and Covid-19 should be useful for HR teams looking at reframing their well-being agenda to take account of the ‘new normal’ in which we find ourselves.
