Today The Crown Estate has announced proposals for early stage commercial and full commercial Floating wind seabed leases in the Celtic Sea. The announcement is welcome for the developers pioneering these projects which we urgently need, but also for the South West of England and Wales. Our Bristol office has been part of the push to open up the Celtic Sea to floating wind and we recently handled the sale of Wave Hub for a demonstration floating wind project. We are part of the Celtic Sea Cluster and Marine Energy Wales which aims to make sure that the the South West and Welsh supply chain captures the benefits from these projects. Floating wind presents a big opportunity if the UK can move quickly. Our offshore wind consenting team is already working through planning specifics associated with the Celtic Sea and we have begun the legal thinking on coordinated grid. Timings will be all important and will need to work alongside future CfD allocation rounds. If you have potential interests in the Celtic Sea feel free to get in touch.
