Biodiversity Net Gain is now live, and the surge in commentary around this issue over the last couple of weeks is impossible to ignore.

This has already changed how people see and value their land, and over the next year we should start to see issues around BNG shake themselves out, as a private market for BNG on land becomes established.  We will start to see the reality behind persistent thoughts, such as the idea that the delivery of on-site BNG by developers may restrict the size of the off-site market.

We will also no doubt see further changes in the consideration given to  land with high biodiversity value.  Certainly, creators of wetland  areas and certain sorts of scrub grazing grounds may end up sitting on a surprisingly valuable asset, given its biodiversity value.

There will be more to be said about BNG and its impact over the course of the year, but at the moment the devil is in the detail.

Our Planning team are holding a webinar on Wednesday 21 February at midday, consciously looking at the detail of the legal requirements that have now come into force.  This will be a very helpful session, given the novelty this area, and as it is focused on the applicable law, attendees should be able to get some concrete benefits from it.   It comes highly recommended.  You can sign up through the link below.
