The Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Bill was passed into law by Parliament on 24th May 2024. This follows a long process, and extensive back and forth with the House of Lords, since the initial introduction of the Bill in Spring 2023.
The much-anticipated legislation has major implications including reforming the consumer protection and enforcement landscape and introducing a new digital competition regime.
The majority of the Act is expected to come into force in Autumn 2024, with some aspects subject to additional legislation being introduced. We will be commenting further when the final consolidated copy of the Act is available, but as a reminder you can view our comments on the initial Bill for consumer aspects, and digital markets aspects.
