The Welsh Government's proposals for sustainable farming contain a lot that will be of interest to anyone considering the direction of travel for rural land in the context of Net Zero throughout the UK.
Eye catching proposals include a universal requirement for 10% tree cover on a farm, and optional support to increase public access to farmland, one of the stated aims of the scheme. Both of these are likely to be controversial and will stimulate the on-going discussions about the role of rural land, public involvement with it, government support and food security.
The proposals are being consulted on over the summer.
The Scheme demonstrates the Government’s commitment to support you to take action to help lower your carbon footprint and deliver for nature whilst at the same time continuing to produce food sustainably
