On 7 June, the Home Office published a guide (12 pages) for EEA and Swiss nationals (and their family members) in respect of their immigration status in the UK.
By way of reminder, the deadline to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme ("EUSS") is 30 June 2021 and until then, EEA and Swiss nationals (and their family members) can use one of the following ways to prove their UK immigration status:
- Valid passport or national ID card;
- Biometric residence card or permit; or
- Online by using the "View and Prove Service".
However, after 30 June 2021, EEA and Swiss nationals (and their family members) will be expected to prove their UK immigration status under the EUSS or the points-based system using the View and Prove Service (or other valid documents issued by the Home Office).
It has been stressful for EEA and Swiss nationals (and their family members) to apply under the EUSS. Although the digitalisation of the application process and proof of status was intended to make life easier, having to read through 12 pages in order to find out more about the eVisa and the View and Prove Service indicates that there will be more questions than answers in relation to the EUSS for the foreseeable future.
